Captains away day at Castle Royle
Congratulations to our Captains John Tuffen and Angela Robinson and respective vice Captains Jeff Robinson and Linda Gleed who took part in The Club Company golf day held at Castle Royle. This day is hosted by The Club Company as a thank you to all the Captains within the group not only for their contribution at the clubs but for also raising phenomenal amounts of money each year for their chosen charities.
Leslie Wood V Frinton Golf Club
The squad have put an enormous amount of effort into their preparations for this year’s competition, however the five morning foursomes matches did not go according to plan and we found ourselves 3.5 to 1.5 down.
The weather was appalling but the same for both teams, a big lesson was learned about keeping the ball in play and playing percentage golf.
After a quick lunch and a very positive team meeting in the boardroom, resulted in some superb golf and a great team performance, lead us to picking up 8 points out of the ten on offer in the afternoon singles, with the evergreen Malcolm Payne picking up that very important winning point that got us over the line, resulting in a 9.5 to 5.5 win.
I felt a lot was learned on Sunday about how important foursome golf is and what a massive influence and support a good caddie can provide, so a big thank you from me and the players to those who caddied, the players owe you a few behind the bar for sure, we move on to the next round on Sunday 19th May vs. Abridge at home.
Over 55’s v Thorton Park
The Essex played Thorndon Park to play in RD1 of this year’s Essex senior’s county championship.
It was a very close game, alas we came out second 6 – 5.
This weekend we held the clubs first major competition for both the Men’s and Ladies sections. With temperatures sitting at Zero degrees at 7 am the conditions were looking tough with the course playing at it’s longest as well. Battling against the cold conditions Joe Trim came out on top with a Nett 70 which won by a single shot over Tom O’Brien.
The Ladies winner was Sue Ballard who won again by a single shot over Brenda Reeve.
