New Tennis Season Has Begun

The new season has just begun and the clubs 21 teams start their pursuit of more silverware. The Colchester & District Men’s A team has a new captain, Adam Porter has taken the reins and started with a 6-3 win, away to Lexden R & F, producing a captains performance winning all three sets with Andrew Knights.

In the Ladies, Ros Somerville leads her promoted B team into the Premier League, where her first two matches are against reigning champions The Essex A who are captained by Sophie Bardrick. Sarah Conlon and Annette Butterworth are continuing to lead the C & E teams whilst the D team has a new skipper in Felicity Arrell. Kerry Porter’s Mixed A started with two 7-2 wins over Fiona Courtauld’s Mixed B in the Premier League whilst the Gillian Cooney’s C and Fillippa Parker’s D teams await their first fixtures.

In the Halstead League the Men’s (Ian Davis), Ladies A (Anne Burton) and Mixed A ( Malcolm Hobbs) are all looking to regain their Division One titles. Richard Parker has taken over the Men’s C from John Boland and Adrian Baines the Men’s D from Andy Messider. Thank you to Tim Walden, Richard Arrell and John Nyari who have agreed to do another years service.

In the Essex Leagues Tina Newnes is the new Ladies A captain whilst Essex Vets stalwart Keng Davis remains in charge.
